Overview & Purpose
CUSAT instituted two awards the Distinguished Young Faculty Award (for faculty) and the
Distinguished Researcher Award (for research scholars) to recognize significant contributions
in teaching, research, and scholarly activities by the eligible candidates. The funding for the
awards comes from the prize money of the Chancellor’s Award 2017.
Nature and Value of Awards
• Distinguished Young Faculty Award: Cash prize of ₹30,000 plus a certificate of
appreciation.
• Distinguished Researcher Award: Cash prize of ₹20,000 plus a certificate of
appreciation.
• Up to five awards may be granted in each category in a given year (i.e. maximum of
five faculty, five researchers).
Eligibility Criteria
For Distinguished Young Faculty Award<
1. Applicants shall be permanent faculty members of the University having at least two years
of experience in the University, as on 1st July of the awarding year
2. Applicants shall be of an age less than 45 years as on 1st July of the awarding year
3. A person who has received this award once shall not be eligible to apply for the same in
the subsequent four years.
For Distinguished Researcher Award
1. Applicant shall be a full-time registered research scholar of the University.
2. Research Scholars who have submitted their thesis during the assessment period are also
eligible to apply. Their achievements while in CUSAT will only be considered for the award.
3. Applicant shall have a minimum of one year of research experience at the University.
4. A person who has achieved this award once shall not be eligible to apply for the same
again during the period of research/study.
Application & Selection Process
• Annually, applications are invited in a prescribed format, with supportingdocuments.
• A Screening Committee shall evaluate eligibility and shortlist the candidates. A
Selection Committee with external experts (nominated by the Vice-Chancellor)
assesses the shortlisted applications.
• Marks/scores are assigned based on detailed criteria, and decisions by the committees
are final.
